Keeping in mind that the best decision is the most informed one, we provide our members with detailed, easy-to-find information on their HMO providers to help them narrow their search and feel confident about their selections.
By making this information available on our web site, we enable members to make informed provider decisions and help our providers benchmark themselves relative to their peers.
The Provider Performance Profile summarizes information about medical groups and Independent Practice Associations (IPAs) in seven different categories. It also provides information on the methodology of each medical group, noted by the letter "a" or "b" next to the name of the respective group. The member can review criteria in each method by selecting the link at the top of the Provider Performance Profile pages.

In 2003, we reported for the first time results for 70 medical groups that participated in the new HMO Quality Incentive Program. This program includes an expanded set of measures described in Methodology "B." Methodology "A" describes the groups that were scored using the original method.
We anticipate that by 2005, all medical groups in the Blue Cross of California network will be part of the new program.
