NETLI'S NETLIGHTNING SOLUTION CERTIFIED HIPAA-COMPLIANT
Compliance Certification Assures Safe, Secure Environment for Transport of Health Information Between Systems and Applications
PALO ALTO, Calif.-June 21, 2004-Netli, the first service provider to deliver a business-quality Internet, today announced that its NetLightning solution has met the HIPAA Conformance Certification Organization's (HCCO's) criteria for compliance with the security and privacy portions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). As a HIPAA-compliant solution, NetLightning can now assure organizations and users that healthcare information passed among systems and applications over the Internet will not be compromised in transit.
In a concerted effort to streamline business processes and drive down costs, the healthcare industry is rapidly adopting Web-enabled applications and IT spending is on the rise. Analyst firm Gartner expects healthcare industry spending on IT services to increase to over $30 billion by 2007. However, the lack of interoperable standards among the wide variety of healthcare systems has made the exchange of healthcare information between applications very difficult. At the same time, approaches to transporting the data between systems have often compromised the data's integrity.
In certifying that NetLightning has met the criteria for HIPAA compliance, the HCCO has recognized that the service enables data interoperability and the fast, secure delivery of applications for end users around the world. Netli provides LAN-like performance for Web-based applications delivered from a central data center over the Internet, while providing the visibility and control that radically reduces the risk of extending business processes to the Web. Netli has amplified the power of the Internet for application delivery, effectively unlocking an unprecedented opportunity to successfully Web-enable high-value global business processes.
"Without proper infrastructure, data in transit is susceptible to exposure, compromise or loss of integrity," said Ross A. Leo, member, Executive Board and Chairman, Committee on Security, Privacy and Continuity for HCCO. "Secure data transit is critically important in the healthcare industry, and services like NetLightning achieve this by facilitating easier and more direct information flow between systems and applications, while avoiding the risk of exposure."
"The proven value of the NetLightning service coupled with our commitment to supporting the strictest standards has made Netli the preferred company for optimizing Web performance across multiple industries," said Willie Tejada, vice president of marketing and business development at Netli. "With the certification of NetLightning as a HIPAA-compliant solution, we plan to be the application delivery network of choice in the healthcare industry to support the fast, secure delivery of Web-enabled applications."
