  • MILLIPORE SELECTS NETLI TO EXPAND ITS ECOMMERCE APPLICATION INTO NEW MARKETS AND INCREASE INTERNATIONAL ONLINE SALES

NetLightning™ Instrumental to Millipore's Online Growth in Asia and Europe

Palo Alto, California - April 21, 2003 - Netli, the first company to offer a complete Application Delivery Network (ADN) service, announced today that Millipore has selected its NetLightning service to increase the performance of its eCommerce application for its global end users. Since subscribing to Netli's NetLightning service, Millipore has seen a significant increase in its online traffic and a rapid acceleration of its recently deployed eCommerce store in Japan. There has also been an increase in user satisfaction in terms of the Web site's overall speed performance.

Millipore is one of a growing list of companies to select the NetLightning service, which was officially launched today (see today's Netli press release, Netli Enables Multinational Enterprises to Extend the Reach of Mission-critical Applications Globally From a Central Data Center). Netli's NetLightning is the first ADN service that transparently provides global sub-second response times for Web applications in a centralized data center without requiring any changes to site content, servers or client software, or investment in expensive, complex networking technology.

Millipore launched a project in late 2002 to extend its online operations internationally without adding significant infrastructure. To maximize its online business in Japan and other markets, Millipore needed a cost-effective way to dramatically improve the performance of its eCommerce application, which delivers highly customized, dynamically-generated Web pages, and offers online customers over 5,000 products. Information for each customized page is generated from the company's consolidated data center in Massachusetts.

Since subscribing to the NetLightning service, Millipore has experienced a number of dramatic improvements to its eCommerce application, including:
    • Consistent global transaction times in the one to three second range
    • Increase in site traffic by 33% from the previous year and rapid growth in online sales, particularly in Asia
    • Virtual elimination of performance complaints from Asian customers, partners, and staff
"As a multinational bioscience company, we were looking to extend our highly successful U.S.-based eCommerce presence to Asia and Europe," said Jeffrey O'Halloran, manager of Millipore's Internet Services Group. "However, we also needed to integrate this eCommerce presence with our consolidated IT infrastructure to reduce costs and management complexities. Netli has enabled us to do both. It has been instrumental in the recent launch of our eCommerce store in Japan, with a high level of customer satisfaction and rapid online growth. Immediately after subscribing to Netli's NetLightning service, our customers were able to access our eCommerce site up to 77% faster with no other changes to our infrastructure. The 4,000 to 5,000 scientists and engineers who come to our site every day are getting a rich array of technical information and media delivered much faster and more reliably than before."

    About Netli
Netli is the first company to deliver a complete Application Delivery Network (ADN) service that transparently provides global sub-second response times for Web applications that are located in a centralized data center. Organizations such as HP, Nielsen//NetRatings, and Millipore are using Netli's first service offering - NetLightning™ - to increase revenue, decrease support costs, and improve end user satisfaction without deploying expensive additional data center infrastructure. The service is ideal for organizations that want to achieve sub-second response times, increased availability, and secure access for their Web applications worldwide with no server or client changes, and no capital expenditures. NetLightning is built on Netli's patent-pending Reliable Application Platform for Instant Delivery (RAPID) infrastructure. RAPID is comprised of four major technology components: overlay network with virtual data centers located strategically worldwide, global DNS redirection and IP address mapping system, high-performance transport protocol and dynamic content optimization technology, and a 24x7 network operations center. The company is privately held and based in Palo Alto, California. Netli has raised over $21 million in equity financing from leading venture capital firms including Morgenthaler Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Alta Partners, Nokia Venture Partners, and Leapfrog Ventures.
